Highlights

More information

Explore the richness of Spanish culture on our Madrid Royal Palace and Prado Museum tour. Start in the palace courtyard, the Plaza de la Armería, flanked by the sprawling palace and the royal cathedral, where you’ll hear about the history of the palace. With your tour guide leading the way, you’ll get to know this sprawling palace, the largest in Europe, boasting 3,418 rooms. Hear stories about the royal family as you look inside the king’s and queen’s apartments and imagine the dances that used to be held in the large banquet hall. You’ll also admire the Italian art and artifacts that adorn the throne room, and we’ll visit the royal chapel, officially called the Capilla de Nuestra Señora de la Almudena. You’ll get a long lunch break between the palace and Prado Museum, so you have plenty of time to explore on your own or grab a bite to eat. Be sure to ask your tour guide for recommendations! With our optional upgrade, you can use part of this time to dine like a local on your own with a traditional tapas lunch. You’ll be able to enjoy three small plates, in true tapas style, and a drink is included. Finish the day immersed in works by the greatest Spanish, Flemish, and Italian artists at the Prado. Your guide will help you navigate the thousands of paintings in the museum’s collection and talk about the influence artists like Francisco Goya and El Greco have had on European art history. Stay in the museum as long as you like after the guided tour ends to continue exploring on your own.
